About the Kouponista

Hey everyone! I’m Kouponista Krista and I started this blog to share recipes, money saving ideas, parenting stories, and things I love with those that I love. I’m the proud mother of two wonderful boys ages 7 and 12 (Lucas and Nicholas), and the happy wife of an amazing man (Jeff). I live in Beaverton, Oregon and have for the last 20 years.

In December, 2010 I had an epiphany of sorts. I needed to change how I managed my family’s finances. Drastically. We were living paycheck to paycheck with zero breathing room for incidentals, robbing Peter to pay Paul with all of our bills (including 2 car payments) and feeling massively stressed 99% of the time. I was watching TV with my husband one evening and we saw that there was a show called ‘extreme couponing ‘ so we gave it a shot. After all, there was nothing else on. Little did we know, this seemingly insignificant event was about to change our lives forever. In a good way. Over two years later, we have saved tens of thousands of dollars on our groceries, we have a stockpile that covers 6 sets of shelves, a 4 drawer dresser and a full size free standing freezer. We pay our bills on time or early every month and have little debt. I’ve said it a hundred times and I’ll say it a hundred more. Coupons changed my life. I no longer worry about what to make for dinner and how much is in our bank account to make said dinner. By watching and waiting for sales, combining them with coupons, and stocking up when things were cheap or free, I have eliminated that stress. No more “crap, we’re out of Mayo, when is pay day “?! Then waiting and paying who knows how much for a single jar of generic mayo and wondering how long it will last. Instead, I walk out to the garage and grab a jar from the stockpile that I paid next to nothing for. And it’s not even generic! 🙂 What’s more awesome is knowing that I have a 6 month supply and I don’t have to stress about it. We own both of our vehicles and paid for them with cash. We don’t own a home yet… But we’re working on it. All in all I would say that the changes that my family and I made have been a great Success and that’s a pretty great feeling!
